“The Electric Portal” was inspired by a drive through the northern Peak District, where we passed through Dunford Bridge, close to the eastern portal of the Woodhead Tunnel, which National Grid use for carrying electric power cables.
“616” was inspired by reported sightings of ghost children dancing to “Ring-a-Ring o’ Roses” under an electricity pylon in the vicinity of the A616 Stocksbridge Bypass in South Yorkshire.
The artwork is a photograph of the Hunshelf Primary Substation near Stocksbridge in South Yorkshire, taken at sunset on 29th December 2021. It’s not known whether this photo is of the same pylon haunted by the ghost children.
